Working Drafts of Adolescent DERS Inventories
A note on the inventories:
Unlike the early childhood and elementary versions of the DERS the adolescent level has two separate environment inventories. These were created as a way to both measure best practices around adolescent development at the classroom level but also at the program level.
While we know that it is key for adolescents to do things like engage in real, meaningful work that benefits their community in ways like caring for animals or preparing meals, we also know that measuring these opportunities and environmental characteristics in every learning environment would not be appropriate. By measuring environment attributes that directly impact adolescent development and are common across a wide variety of educational spaces in the classroom inventory, we can then evaluate a program for environment attributes that may only occur in certain educational spaces when appropriate but should be accessible to students at some point in their day or week.
